Sterling Furniture Shop Is Open
Introduction
Here at Sterling we want our customers to be happy, if you’re happy then that makes us happy. Simple. That is why we have been putting together these guides to help you make informed descisions on furniture care (see our leather care guide). Now we bring you our guide to assist you in measuring your rooms to see if not only if your furniture will fit in your rooms but also if it will fit in the door. We hope you find this guide useful, now let’s get those measuring tapes at the ready!

Get your Calculators out!
Believe it or not you can work out if your furniture is going to fit with a calculator and your trusty tape measure. Here’s how you do it.You need to take 6 measurements in total, 3 for the door and the room and another 3 on the furniture itself.

First the room as you can see from the diagram below you measure the Width and Height of the door frame then the Depth from the access wall to the far wall in the destination room.

To measure your furniture you measure again the Width, Height and Depth the image below illustrates these measurements.

What about the calculators you may ask? Well here’s the ‘science bit’ that is required to get the Diagonal measurement.
Fear not though as we have provided you a simple calculator below that works it all out for you!

Height cm + Depth cm =

What do I need the Diagonal measurement for?
The Diagonal depth must be less than doorway dimension A in the illustration above if it’s more then you are not going to get the furniture in through that door unless you dismantle it. We have had customers have to phone up glaziers to remove front window’s before so please measure up before you buy.

Why did I measure the width?
This is an easy one. If the width of the sofa is more than the height of your doorway then you will encounter the exact same problems as the ones stated previously. Again a little time and pre-planning can save you a lot of hassle and potential expense so please take note of this measurement.

Is that it?
For most furnture yes but for items such as wardrobes that are not flat packed you need to take note of the following:
The frontside diagonal height must be less than doorway dimensions B or C

The depth of the unit must be less than doorway dimension A

Anything else?
Use your common sense so clear away the rooms current furniture as much as possible to allow movement of your new furniture. Also please take into account the entry passage, does it have large radiators that may hinder the passage of the delivery? Move what you can out of the way if you think it’s going to block or restrict access for our delivery team.

That’s everything apart from we hope you enjoy your new furniture for many years to come and we look forward to seeing you again at Sterling.
